Hot Shot Necklace

$64.00

Named after the process by which these are created, the Hot Shot Necklace has a rustic and artisanal look reminiscent of a find from an old desert thrift shop.

The shot plate that I used was made by 5th generation Navajo stamp makers in New Mexico.

Like every piece I make, it starts out from recycled sterling silver casting grain, or I recycle my own scraps and pour it into an ingot. The ingot is then rolled out into either silver wire or sheet. For this necklace, I then melt silver into small balls and place them into my shot plate. Then, using a blacksmith’s hammer, I hammer the ball into the plate in order to create the pendant. I then cut, hammer, and file each pendant to perfection. Each one is different and as my mentor says, it shows honest work. Next, I polish and antique the pendant and hang a hand wrapped baby bead of beautiful natural turquoise from the bail. Stones can be customized, just let me know what you are looking for.

From a metaphysical perspective, Turquoise is associated with personal protection, making it a popular protective shield for ancient warriors heading out into battle. The bright and stunning hue of the Turquoise crystal has been discovered in the ceremonial masks and battle gear of the Aztecs, a tribe that revered this decorative stone for its ability to provide personal protection against negative forces. In the case of the ancients, it served as a bodyguard against invading marauders and other challenges of antiquity. According to Persian legend, the Turquoise crystal stone was believed to bring good luck when it reflected the light of the new moon.

Pendant is 1/2 inch wide x 3/4 inch tall (including the bail, just over 1/2 inch without the bail)

16 inch sterling silver chain

Total length of necklace is 17.5 inches

1 mm delicate bright blue natural Turquoise bead hung from a sterling silver headpin

Pendant made from 100% recycled sterling silver

Handmade in my home studio in San Diego, CA
