The Delos Ring is the first piece in my new collection which was inspired by the Greek island of Delos, or “the floating island.”

Delos is said to be the island that was the birthplace the birthplace of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis. The Temple of Apollo is where The Oracle at Delphi would answer questions, predict the future, and speak truth to power.

Greek mythology states that the island of Delos had floated aimlessly in the Aegean, but became anchored in its position by Poseidon who made four granite columns rise out of the sea to anchor it firmly in its present place for the divine birth. This is why the island came to be called Delos, which means 'visible', before which it was a floating, nomadic rock called Ortygia or Adelos (the invisible). The island of Delos was held in such reverence by many nations that even the Persians, after destroying other islands as well as temples, spared Delos. The Persian admiral, Datis would not let his men anchor their ships in the harbor. The Oracle of Delos was second only to the Oracle at Delphi.

The Delos ring is handmade in wax and then cast in my home studio in San Diego, Ca. The haunting labradorite cabochon sits on a layer of sterling silver that floats above the base layer which is supported by sterling silver balls. The top of the ring is one solid cast piece and then a thin, and slightly rounded edge band is soldered on. There is a space at the base of the bezel setting that represents the mouth of the harbor that the Persian admiral forbade his fleet to drop anchor in. The small silver ball at the top of the ring is a reminder to focus and direct your intention to its desired goal.

Labradorite is said to represent the “temple of the stars” and helps to sustain, maintain, and help a person understand the destiny they have chosen. The energy of labradorite helps to transform intuition into intellectual thought so that it can be put into action. Labradorite stimulates mental acuity, reduces anxiety and stress, as well as can aid in digestion and metabolism.

• This ring weighs approximately .65 oz so it has a very solid feel and hefty feel. It fits very comfortably on the finger and is most comfortable on the middle or ring finger (in my opinion)

The Delos Collection is a series of rings, pendants, and earrings based on the myth of the ancient “floating island” of Delos. It’s first mentioned in Greek mythology as the birthplace of twin gods Apollo (the sun god) and Artemis (the goddess of hunting, wild animals, and the wilderness). It was a sacred place to the Greeks.
